TWO "URAL" RIOT TRUCKS FULL OF RIOT POLICE AGAINST 200 PENSIONERS

On 29 December 2010, about 200 Novosibirsk pensioners picketed the building of the Novosibirsk regional administration. The pensioners were protesting against the governor's decision to reduce the amount of concessionary travel along the social transport map.

The venue of the picket was moved by the mayor to the A.D. Kryachkov statue near a 100 apartment block building where even two "Ural" riot trucks full of riot police were driven. However, the people did not picket the apartment block – but instead, gathered outside the regional administration building. The authorities carefully prepared for the protests, and a police cordon was set up around the perimeter of the regional administration building and along Krasny Prospect to prevent any blocking of the the main thoroughfare of the city.

An initiative group of citizens was formed for a meeting with the governor. The delegation to the governor was not allowed, and members of the public could communicate only with the Minister of Transport, Simonov, and he was given a resolution from the picket.

OUTRAGED PENSIONERS STORM MAYOR'S OFFICE IN NOVOSIBIRSK

In Novosibirsk, about 200 pensioners (from other sources, about 300) during the day on Wednesday, December 22, participated in a demonstration against the reduction of the number of concessionary travel on municipal transport. At first, the pensioners stood with placards on Lenin Square and then marched to City Hall, broke in and demanded a meeting with the mayor.

As reported on the website of the regional committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), instead of the mayor of Novosibirsk coming down to meet the indignant protesters, the first vice-mayor Andrey Ksenzov came down instead, but the pensioners did not want to speak to him.
RIA Novosti specified, with reference to the press service of regional police department that "none of the pensioners were arrested and that everything was ok."

We recall that, in accordance with the decision of the Governor, from January 1, 2011, Novosibirsk region is changing discount travel for preferential categories of citizens. If, currently benefit recipients are entitled to unlimited travel on the "social map", in the future, most of them, starting from 31-st trip per month will pay for travel out of their own pockets.
